I'm sure most of you know, but yesterday we lost The Monkees lead singer, Davy Jones to a heart attack at the age of 66. Even though The Monkees and Davy were icons from my parents youth, I grew up on their tunes. I have a book about them recording one of their albums and I have quite a few of their albums on vinyl. In fact, I have my mom's old Monkees album "Monkees" framed and hanging on my wall. It's been up there for years. How many of you, also grew up listening to The Monkees?

Even though The Monkees were cast and created for a TV show called The Monkees, their music has become iconic. They are one of the more well known bands of the 60's and I think it has way more to do with the music then the TV show. Many of the songs have been covered over the years, but nothing can touch the original tunes sung and played by a group lead by a charming, young Englishman. So rest in peace Davy Jones and thanks so much for the awesome music you've left behind!

What The Hell Wednesday: When Girls Make Gun Sounds!

This post is brought on by the age old question "what the hell, why can't girls make good gun sounds?" It might not be a question that you have ever asked yourself. Hell, there is a chance that you have never needed to make a gun sound in your whole life, and so you might be trying it right now. I'll give you a second, did you try it?

I on the other hand grew up with 4 brothers and a slew of man friends, meaning that there were plenty of times where we had shoot outs with water guns, rubber band guns, and maybe even marshmallow guns! Of course the guys would be making gun noises, but they didn't stop there, they would also make "blowing stuff up" noises as well. And they were good at it. Scratch that, they were amazing at it. I on the other hand, left them asking, "what the hell was that"? It was that bad. They looked at me like this guy looks at this girl...

I was reminded of all of this when I was just being my plain old, super corny yet amazing self the other day. My mom said "shoot" with a long pause, which gave me the time to say "pew....pew". She looked at me with a grand "what the hell" face and then I said I was making a gun sound. That of course led to a discussion about how awful girls are at making gun sounds. And I have to agree. I mean, look, there is even a web series about it. "What the hell"? Thank God, I typed in "girls making gun sounds" and found this treasure trove! I mean how awesome are these videos? There are tons more too...

So are you one of the few girls who kick ass at gun sounds? Or do you join the ranks of "girls who make gun sounds" too? Did you grow up making them? Have you ever gotten better at them? Have you heard of Jack and White. No, I didn't say Jack White. Trust me, I didn't. I said Jack and White. The duo comprised of Jack Matranga and Brooke White (from American Idol).

On Saturday morning I was reading through my twitter feed when monster cakes mentioned Jack and White. In my confusion and I asked her this, "Is Jack and White different than the most brilliant music man ever, Jack White? Or are they one in the same?". She responded and clued me in to this new band! Then all of the sudden Jack and White, themselves, joined in the convo by stating "Different and slightly less brilliant".

Gotta love a band that will jump into a convo like that. I already wanted to check out their tunes, but when they took the time to join in our tweet fest, I knew I had to check out their stuff ASAP. And I LOVED what I heard when I did. Yes, they were right when they said that they are different, but I'm not quite so sure about them being less brilliant then Jack White? Their musicianship and harmonies are amazing, and their tunes are awesome!

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower: A "BCB" Review

It's that time again, the last Friday of the month, when all of us Book Club Bloggers state our piece about whatever book we read this month. The wonderful Charlotte over at "The Daily Snapshot" runs the book club and this year we are diving into the world of BANNED BOOKS! It's quite an exciting world so far, if I do say so myself. If you love to read you can find the list of this years books HERE.

This month we dove into the deep question, what are "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower"? This novel by Stephen Chbosky takes a look into the life of Charlie as he navigates his first year of high school in 1991. This book is a series of letters to an unknown source, sent by Charlie. Somehow, Scbosky manages to pull you into the story by making you feel that YOU were the one the letters where intended for. I think this is why as a reader I connected with Charlie so well.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't know why this book has been banned. Charlie takes you on a journey. In this journey he is introduced to things like drugs, sex, homosexuality and, on top of all that, dealing with a friends suicide, right off the bat. Though, I think a few parts could have been toned down a bit, it's all a huge part of the story. It all happens, whether or not you choose to participate in it or not, it's all there and in your face. That being said it was the tone that Charlie used to tell us about his life, friends and misadventures that softens the situations. Sometimes he makes you laugh, cringe or want to give him a HUGE hug!

It's kind of wonderful how you are able to experience Charlie in all of his friendship/relationships without them seeming one sided. I think that is only pulled off well, because as we all know Charlie is an observer. And he tells us everything he sees, and he sees a lot more than anyone else would have. Though his friends are all seniors, he thrives in the setting, he's an old soul. His love of music a books also showed that he is touched by what others put hard work into. The fact that so many of the gifts he gives are made from music and books, shows just how much he loves them.

No matter what, there is always this feeling that something isn't quite right with Charlie. But unlike Holden in "The Catcher And The Rye", Charlie lives life to the fullest, or at least as full as he possibly can. Yes, he does seem to fall into a panic out of the blue at times, but I believe the end of the book answers the question of why Charlie is like this. I love how the bomb didn't drop till the very end of the book. How one little encounter brought everything from Charlie's past flooding back, which allowed him to begin the healing process. (I won't say what happened, in case you haven't read it). I was shocked for him. It was a fantastic way to end the book.

I didn't really want to leave Charlie in the end, I wanted to know what else happens to him. If he and Sam got together and got married and if Patrick ever found true love? And if they would have had a "Rocky Horror Picture Show" themed, double wedding? How cool would that be?

I know that I already posted this new track from Jack White HERE, but he released this video on Valentine's Day in true Jack White fashion and I'm digging it! The video is great. I mean it's soooo old school. Not only does it feature Jack, but also fantastic vocalist Ruby Amanfu, Emily Bowland on bass clarinet and Brooke Wagonner on wurlitzer. I'm loving the set, the beehives and those glamorous dresses. Jack doesn't look to bad either as he sports a very Johnny Cash like jacket. Oh and they even have a Boston Terrier in there! It's basically 60's glam, mixed with HUGE amounts of talent and a great tune!

According to (this article) Jack White is going to be playing in London on June 23rd, right before I go. Dang it. But, it gives me hope that possibly, he will be playing at the music fest we are going to in Switzerland? Please GOD, make it be so! Until then, you can also see Jack, and possibly these lovely ladies as the musical guest on SNL the night of March 3rd. You know I'll be watching!

What The Hell Wednesday: That's So Silly!

This week, I'm sharing some videos that make me squeal with laughter, while also making me think "what the hell". Isn't that a wonderful feeling? Laughter mixed with a sense of bewilderment is a beautiful thing.

How long does it take this kid to understand that he's supposed to spell the word heron? I might only be able to spell it right because I heard it so many times... "what the hell"? Thanks for the laughs kid, and other people in this video. The little girl in the background is pretty priceless as well.

Thank you Dan Stevens for tweeting about the web series "Watchin' Downton"! There are only two little episodes so far, but if you watch the show, you will love watching these three ladies watch the show. It's classic to say the least. They have a lot of page views too! I was bummed that they never say "what the hell" though.

So, where does this topic come from? The other day a friend and I were talking about Jane Austin movie adaptations and she said without a doubt the best one was the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice". Now, I happen to like both versions, both the BBC and the Keira Knightly versions. I also happen to LOVE "Mansfield Park" and "Emma", so of course I tweeted, asking people what Jane Austin movie was their favorite? Only one of your responded, other then the person who I was talking to and so I thought I'd ask the question in a bigger setting.

Man Candy Monday: James McAvoy!

There are two of his roles that are my favorites of his, which would be Brian in "Starter For 10" and Max in "Penelope". I think it was his role in "Penelope" that really put him on my radar, even if I had seen him in a lot before that. He's edgy, that's for sure, but somehow he also pulls off being seemingly sweet. Foreign Friday: North & South

This months Foreign Friday is the BBC mini series "North & South"! Being that it is a mini series, you get 4 whole episodes worth of amazing British programing. Feeling like you're having "Downton Abbey" withdraws? As you wait for the next episode, don't fear, try this one on for size. Hey, it even features our very own Mr. Bates.

"North & South" was released in 2004 and you can stream it instantly on Netflix, in fact, that's where I watched it. It's a story about the differences between the north and south of England. When Margaret Hale (Daniela Denby-Ashe) is moved away from her southern home by her father, who decides to leave the church, both she and her mother have to move North. Margaret and her family lived in the country and so when they move into an industrial Northern town, things change for the whole family. Milton is a town full of cotton mills and dark smoke. As Margaret goes about trying to make sense of her new surroundings she meets Bessy Higgens (Anna Maxwell Martin) and her father Nicolas Higgins (Brendan Coyle AKA Mr. Bates), both poor and both working at a local cotton mill run by John Thorton (Richard Armitage).

The series also looks into the start of the union and the breaking of the class barriers. Which comes to light as Nicolas strives to be a good union man. In the mean time Mr. Thorton has started taking lessons from Margaret's father, and though the two did not meet on good terms they slowly become friends. Which then turns into some crazy tension when things start to unfold.

"North & South" has a complete air of mystery about it, though you guess the overall outcome from very early on. There are plenty of twists, turns and surprises. Enough to keep this film from being boring. Plus the chemistry between all of the characters is delightful. Honestly, you should all give this one a try. It's not a trite romance, and has enough political intrigue, death and stubborn pride to keep anyone entertained for a good 4 + hours!

Rating: 4 1/2 Passports!

Speaking Of Vampires...

Yesterday, when I talked about love triangles, vampires got mentioned... a lot. But, not to worry, I have a way to solve the vampire problem. Apparently, all I need to do is talk to former president of the USA, Abraham Lincoln. That's right folks, I'm talking about the new film "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". I know some of you might not be on board with this film, but I honestly can't wait. Guess what? I'm just in luck as it's release date is June 22nd, only about a week before I leave the States.

I think the idea that the slave owners are helping out vampires, causing that to be the driving force for Lincoln to want to end slavery is a twist on the whole vampire thing. A refreshing twist. I love me some history and I love me some supernatural happenings, and this film sounds like it will mix those two things together perfectly! Plus the cast should be amazing and Tim Burton is a part of the project! All huge pluses in my opinion!

So who else is excited about this film? Have you read the book that it's based one yet? I haven't, but hopefully I'll get my hands on it soon.

What The Hell Wednesday: Love Triangles

"What the hell" is she talking about? You might want to know, so I'm going to tell you. The love triangle has always been a tactic used in film, tv and literature for hundreds of years. Well, maybe not hundreds for the film and tv bit, but just go with me on this one. I know that it is a formula that works and that it seems fool proof, but sometimes it becomes too much, maybe not even for a plot line, just over all. Sometimes "everyone" writes a love triangle into their stories and right now is that time. "What the hell"? Maybe, just maybe, a straight forward love story should be written every once in awhile. I know they are out there, but I'm sure you know what I mean when I say that love triangles seem to be everywhere these days.

I mean it amps the sexual tension up in "The Vampire Diaries". This love triangle pits vampire bros Stephan and Damon Salvatore against each other to win over the love of the mortal maiden Elena. Now, I love this show as much as the next person, but I sometimes find myself loving the show more, when only one brother is around.

And we all know about the love triangle of Bella, Jacob and Edward shown in the "Twilight" franchise. Perhaps this is where it all started? Vampire versus werewolf, both in love with a mortal girl. "What the hell", that sounds familiar, right? Dang, maybe wherever a vampire goes a love triangle follows?

Wait a minute, zombies get in on the love triangle action too. Well, made not the actual zombies (walkers), but these three characters in the TV series "The Walking Dead" have some serious issues, that are a little less fluffy then the two previously mentioned. Still it's two best friends fighting over one woman. It's still a love triangle.

And these aren't the only places the love triangle has shown it's face. It's shown up on "Downton Abbey", "The Hunger Games", "Revenge" and countless other places.

Though, it's not a bad thing, I hope that it become less noticeable soon. Or else we all might become tired of the love triangle. So what are your thoughts? To many out there, or do you love them and the tension they create? ( and yes, I did type "love triangle" over 10 times in this post...)

I'm your everyday 20-something girl next door. I graduated with a degree in fashion marketing from a teeny tiny university and thought I wanted to do fashion journalism, but now I'm not so sure. I think I want to open up my own boutique someday.

Most of my free time is spent shopping, reading, playing with my camera, sewing, and watching creepy shows about ghosts on the Bio channel. I laugh at myself (and others) a lot--but I swear I'm not mean-spirited, just playful. I'm a bridal consultant by day where I deal with blushing brides, bridezillas, and everyone in-between, and a fashion blogger by night (or my days off, really).

I originally started it as a tool to promote my Etsy shop, which I was heavily involved in when I was in school and didn't have a job quite yet. French macarons (in any and every flavor--I especially love Bottega Louie's rose one), anything with a bow (I'm obsessed! There's usually at least one bow somewhere in my outfit), things that are heart-shaped (of course), pastels (baby blue, lavender, robin egg blue--sigh, I just love these colors), Bojangles (my 12-year-old mini poodle), and my i-Pod (I listen to music as often as I can).

My perfect film would have a quirky but lovable protagonist. The costumes would be candy-colored and the sets visually stunning. The dialogue would be quick and witty, and the characters strange but relatable. Terrible-but-funny things would happen to the main character, but she'd still end up with a really cute guy. The soundtrack would be a mix of Regina Spektor, Lady Gaga, Dragonette, Metric, and a bunch of other random bands that don't normally go together, but whatever, it's my film.

So, why all the flowery language you might ask? This weeks fellow brings forth my love of the English word, only as it can be spoken in England. Because well, he in fact is from there himself. I know that on most occasions I tend to keep away from blonde gents, but in this case, I could not help myself. See, there is something about this said man that draws me into his intensely blue eyes, and his carefully placed smile. Yes, I've only really seen him play one role, on one of the best TV shows that I have seen in ages (Downton Abbey), but he still stands out to me. You tend to root for his character no matter what, and he delights with his witty, no nonsense attitude. So, who is this random blue eyed, blonde haired fellow who has snuck onto my radar?

The other day I watched the animated version of "Anastasia" with my nephew! I've always loved this movie and the story behind it. Seriously, I used to be obsessed when I was younger with the whole real life Anastasia thing. Did she make it out alive? Was she murdered with the rest of her family? Did she go into hiding, afraid for her life? It's an intriguing story to be sure. Of course, this version has a happy ending and an evil magic man, which isn't what happened in real life, but I still love the film. It also has a huge star studded cast featuring the voices of Meg Ryan, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Bernadette Peters, Kristen Dunst and Angela Lansbury. Just to name a few. And an awesome slew of songs.

The love story between Anastasia and Dimitri gets me every time. Can I just say this right now, even if he is an animated character, Dimitri is a total catch! I mean, he has that total bad boy thing going for him. He is a con man after all, but he's also completely confident, silly, polite and extremely loyal to his pals. Plus, he knows how to get the girl. Oh, and he's got a great smirk. And I mean, come on, he's voiced by John Cusack on top of everything else. How many of you out there, agree that if Dimitri was real and lived in 2012 (wow, so many things are getting in the way) that you would want to elope with him? After going on a crazy adventure and being chased by little demons of course. Yeah, I guess that wouldn't happen either...

What The Hell Wednesday: Are You Afraid Of The Dark?

Hahahaha, no we are not talking about that really old school TV show. Though that was pretty awesome, wasn't it? I'm talking about that moment, where you find yourself late at night, alone in your own house and your a little freaked out. Your not afraid of the dark, necessarily, more of what could be lurking in the dark shadows. The littlest sounds make you think "what the hell" was that? Well, folks, that was me on Saturday night.

You see, the parentals were out of town this last weekend and I had a movie night. It just ended up being myself and three of the guy friends. It turned into a total guys night, plus me of course. We ate pizza, popcorn and drank a beer, (no really, three of us shared a beer, "WTH") we also decided to watch the remake of "The Thing". I'm not complaining at all, it was mucho fun. The movie was actually really good too. I need to see the original ASAP. Cause the new one actually ended up being the prequel, and I need to see how it all ends...

It was all fun and goofiness and scares, and then around midnight or one the gents left, leaving me alone. Now, I usually don't get bugged by a horror movie. In fact I watch them by myself all the time, but for some reason everything lined up and when the door shut and I was left alone in the house, I got a little freaked out. I almost wanted to shout out, "wait guys, isn't this a sleep over?". But that's not normal for people in their mid 20s, is it? "What the hell", why was I thinking that some alien was hiding in my house?

If any of the said guys are reading this right now, I don't hold it against you, you know, leaving me in my house alone. How the hell was I supposed to know I was going to get freaked out? Needless to say I didn't go to bed till 2, but it's ok, cause "Pride and Prejudice" was there to keep me company till I fell asleep. Apparently, Mr. Darcy moonlights at an alien hunter? "What the hell"?

What hole have I been living in? I guess, that would be the hole where I didn't learn about Norwegian songtress Ida Maria until now. Her second album "Katla" came out last summer internationally. And her first album "Fortress Round My Heart" was released in 2008. So needless to say Ida Maria (which is her stage name, BTW) has been around for awhile.

When a friend told me about her music, I looked into it some more and loved what I discovered. Honestly, each one of her albums has a wonderful flow. From songs that are silly to songs that are bad ass with some sweet ballads mixed in. Plus, not only is this girl extremely talented, she's also got great style. I would say that Ida Maria's style, musically, is a mixture of Kate Nash mixed with British punk rock. It totally works and it's 100% her. She puts her stamp on every song, and her vocals stand out!

If you've been living in the same hole I've been occupying, you need to give Ida Maria a try. If you've already discovered her greatness then I give you a virtual high five for being awesome!

Here is her tune "Bad Karma". It's one of my favorites, though "I Like You So Much Better When Your Naked" is pretty classic too.

Man Candy Monday: Thomas McDonell!

It's that great day called Monday once again. And once again I'm linking up with Leeann over at her blog Join The Gossip for her link up called "Man Candy Monday". It's a pretty good way to start your week off.

I have a confession to make. This week I found myself watching Disney's rather epic flick "Prom". Yes, that might have been more than a dash of sarcasm. But lets be honest, it was cute for what it was, which wasn't much, but it was delightful brainless entertainment. Plus, it put this weeks fellow on my radar. There is just something about him. He's handsome, goofy and brooding all at the same time. I'm not the only one who has taken notice of these qualities. Tim Burton has cast this weeks guy as the younger version of Johnny Depp's character in his movie remake of the cult classic TV show "Dark Shadows"! It's easy to see how and why this was done. So who is this fellow who is starting to make a splash in Hollywood?

The Day I Didn't Know I Was Waiting For!

If you follow me on twitter, you know that yesterday something amazing happened! I was checking my twitter feed and I saw a tweet that sent me through the roof. Jackson Rathbone had retweeted Rolling Stone, saying that Jack White was releasing a solo album in April, and I just about screamed with excitement. Jack White is one of the reasons I love music so much! So, of course I looked into the news, and discovered that Rolling Stone was 100 percent correct!

That's right, ladies and gents, Mr. Jack White is releasing his first full length solo album. It'll be interesting to see what this album and Mr. White's new venture will bring. It's not going to be boring, I'll tell you that. No matter what, it will be completely something only he can do. Plus, it's been too long since we've heard new music from him. Last thing he performed on was "Sea Of Cowards" with his band The Dead Weather, so it's been awhile.

Jack White is releasing his solo album "Blunderbus" through his record label Third Man Records, and it's said that it will be released on April 23/24. If the first single "Love Interruption" is any indication, this is gonna be a good one folks!

Also, speaking of music. Starting the 10th of this month I am going to be writing a music column over at the blog "Project Gadabout" every other Friday! Don't worry, I'll be sure to let you know when the posts go up! And right now, I'm being featured over at the blog as a "Glamorous Gadabout", so you can head on over to learn a little bit more about me through this coming Monday! What The Hell Wednesday: An Invisible Sign.

Every once in awhile, I get reminded of what started this whole "WTHW" thing. Which was a very strange film which made me think "what the hell". Well, today's post runs in that same vane. It's not often that a film leaves me speechless, unable to decide what I think about it and slightly, secretly horrified, but "An Invisible Sign" did just that.

Sure, it has a talent filled, star studded cast, an extremely interesting concept and a wonderful Indie vibe, but it still somehow managed to leave me uttering "what the hell" most of the time. It's the story of Mona Gray (Jessica Alba), a emotionally stinted, young 20 something with little to no life motivation. Her mom (Sonia Braga) moves her out onto the front lawn and then helps her into an apartment and then finds her a job as a grade school math teacher. Mona has a deep love of numbers, which was passed onto her by her father (John Shea) who is now ill. Mona hides behind numbers and her own insecurities, but also uses her love of numbers to help the kids who she teaches. She even finds a nice teacher named Ben (Chris Messina) who is all for dating her weird ass!

It sounds like a lovely tale, right? Well, kinda. See the part mentioned is actually quite fun to watch, and the awkwardness of Mona and the people in her life do add up into some pretty funny moments, but the things left unsaid are what make you say "what the hell". The film actually starts off with a lovely little fairy tale about a family who cut off different parts of themselves with an axe, so they don't have to sacrifice one person from their family. It's odd and creepy! "What the hell"? The axe seems to stay in the whole rest of the film. Mona even takes an axe into her third grade class and turns it into a 7 on the wall. Third graders and axes don't mix well, lets just leave it at that.

Honestly, I still don't know what to think about the film? I would never say it was a bad movie, but I don't know if I would tell anyone else to watch it? It is what it is, but I'm not sure what it is? As you can tell, it irks me that I haven't formed an opinion even after thinking about it for a whole week. "What the hell"?

Let's just say that I am normally reluctant to jump on a band wagon when everyone loves something, but I tend to end up, at least checking these things out at some point. As in, waiting to start the "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" books until the last books were about to be released, as well as multiple other things. So when "Downton Abbey" started taking all of these awards at The Golden Globes, I became interested in the show. But, I had no idea how many seasons had passed or anything, even though I'd been hearing about the show for awhile.

You see, I'm a HUGE fan of English period dramas. I haven't seen them all, but I'm working on it. And then all the sudden I realized that "Downton Abbey" was available to stream instantly on Netflix and I bit the bullet and started the show. I just finished the 7th and last episode of the first season on Netflix, and I have to say that I am entirely hooked! In fact I also started season two, which is taking place right now. You can find the new episodes on the PBS website or on your TV, that is if you have cable?

Honestly, the writing is fantastic. I'm a huge fan of movies and TV shows where you have to really listen to what is being said, because the story is in the dialogue as much as it's in the action. This show has that in spades! Plus, it's also witty as hell. The costumes, the antics and the family drama keeps you interested, very interested. The first episode even alludes to the sinking of The Titanic, which gets the ball rolling.

I just love the story that surrounds a wealthy English household full of three sisters, a loving father and mother, a sharp Grandmother, Aunt and even a dashing Cousin. As well as also giving a detailed look into the life of the servants in the household. The interaction of everyone living under one roof is what creates the drama, and also some touching moments. I would tell you more about this show and all of the players in it, but I wouldn't want to ruin it for you.

Is anyone else a fan of "Downton Abbey"? Are you as excited as I am to see where it goes? Who will end up together, who will die, and what sneaky snake will get away with something evil? And if you're not on this bandwagon yet, take my hand and jump on, why don't you?

My Children: I have a 16 year old daughter and twin boys who will be 7 in just a couple of days. My kids are my whole world. I can't imagine my life without them. No matter what is happening good or bad, my kids are always there to share it with me. They laugh and smile at things that make me happy, and they are always there to make me laugh and smile when I am sad or things are not going right. There is nothing better then hearing your children say “I love you Momma” I melt every time. Watching them sleep peacefully at night and waking up to kisses and hugs is always an amazing feeling, I wouldn’t change it for anything. No matter how much they drive me crazy at times.

My Mom/Grandma: I am very close to my Mom, she has always been there for me through all the good times and bad. And trust me there has been a lot of bad. I would be lost without her. When ever I need to talk to someone I always call on my Mom. We live thousands of miles away from each other though so it’s very sad without her near me. I don’t get to see her much either and that can be difficult. Me and my Dad were never close so it's been a true blessing having my Mother in my life. She's an amazing woman. My Grandma who is now in heaven will always be with me in my heart and soul. I miss her each and every day, but she helped make me the person I am today. A independent, loving, kind, feisty loving and good Mom. She was the best! My beautiful Romanian Grandma.

Classic Movies: There is nothing better then laying around on a weekend in my pajamas or late at night to watch an old Black and White movie. I love Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn the best.There is something about those times that are magical. It would have been amazing to be alive back in those days. It's hard to pick my favorite's cause there are so many, but anything with those characters are the best. Also enjoy Jimmy Stewart, Ginger Rogers and Marilyn Monroe

Antique Shopping: I love to shop, but of course antique stores are my favorite. There always seems to be something that makes me smile. I love collecting Vintage S&P shakers, lady vases, clothing, shoes and pink/blue perfume and powder bottles. It’s also wonderful cause my daughter loves to come with me, and we can walk around for hours just looking at all the great things from the past. I also try to imagine who owned it, and what they felt like when doing so. That is always fascinating to me.

Music: I have always been drawn to all kinds of different music throughout my life. Music makes me happy and also helps me when I’m sad. I get a lot of inspiration from much of it. My favorite era’s are 30’s and 40’s. When I hear a song from then I just smile. I have always related to many types, and I think I would be lost if I didn’t have it in my life. I also enjoying singing so music of course helps me with that too:-)

The Color Pink: Always beautiful, girly and makes me happy. I have a lot of pink in my house and I love the Shabby Chic Style so much. I enjoy painting a vintage piece of furniture shabby pink or blue and making it my own. It's funny cause growing up I loved purple only, and although I still like it, pink has become my favorite. I don't see that going away anytime soon.

Her perfect film would consist of...
I have to say my perfect film would be a lot like The Notebook. I love the premise of the film and the location, time period. I would love to have that once in a lifetime romance. To know someone loves me unconditionally and deeply. To be with someone who would do any thing for me. It would have to be funny too cause a good sense of humor in life is essential. I love the music and clothing style. Simply perfect! So I guess a movie along those lines, but of course without having to spend years apart from each other and having so many hardships to find one another.

Rooster Says...

First things first, let me introduce you to the newest member of the household, Rooster! We picked up this darling little fellow on Saturday afternoon and he's already fitting in with everyone here quite well! Ringo is stoked to have a buddy again! Even though Rooster is already bigger then he is, and Rooster is only 9 weeks old! Lol. He's an Australian Cattle Dog, so he'll be medium sized when he's all grown up and such.

The Catcher In The Rye: A "BCB" Review!

Guess what? This is the very first "Book Club Bloggers" review of 2012! My great blog pal Charlotte over at "The Daily Snapshot" heads this book club up! It's so much fun! This year has started off with a bang, as we dug into "The Catcher In The Rye" by J.D. Salinger. It wasn't my first time hanging out with Holden Caulfield, but you see, I didn't read "The Catcher In The Rye" when I was in high school. In fact, the first time I read it, I was about 19 and I have to say that I didn't appreciate it much.

This second time around my over all opinion of the book didn't necessarily change. But, I saw it with new eyes. I can see why it is loved so much, and also how so many have tried to ban it. It's a little more than slightly sinister. Though not completely because of the content, more because of Holden's over all view of life. Yes, he's just as confused as the next teenager, or sometimes just as confused as anyone else, but his thought process behind the things that take place in a few days time really rubs me the wrong way.

I love that Holden is snarky, that his thoughts are intense and that he does some of the strangest things and gets into some of the weirdest situations ever. The fact that he cusses like a drunken sailor, talks about "chasing tail" openly and tries to get away with drinking and smoking up a storm are things that make me really like Holden, in an odd way. The story is crazy, but it's honest. It might have made some people uncomfortable, but who the hell cares?

So, what do I mean when I say his thought process bugged me? I mean that when Holden was living this complete adventure he could have enjoyed himself more. He tends to do things on a whim and then he doesn't commit, or he ends up constantly complaining with the outcome of his decisions. Now, a few instances are worth complaining about, for sure, but the story could have been much more fun if Holden was having a genuine blast with all of his crazy antics.

On the other hand some of Salinger's writting is delightful. One of my favorite parts in the book is when Holden is talking about The Museum Of Natural History, and how, even if the displays and layout of the museum never change, that every time you go to visit, you are a slightly different version of yourself! It's beautiful really!

In the end I guess Holden proves that we are all flawed and lost at times. I just wish we could have seen him genuinely happy at some point in the story. I feel like, in a way, we didn't get to know everything about him, because we only saw his mostly negative view point.

I wish I had some awesomely outrageous story to share with you this week, but alas I spent all week in bed. In fact yesterday was the first day that I did much of anything. That's right, I got hit by, what I like to call "THE DEATH COLD".

I think I had a fever for around three days. "What the hell"? I realize that I tweeted some fairly outrageous things about invisible unicorns. It happens to all of us, right? I know you might be thinking "what the hell", but I'll have to tell you all about The Invisible Unicorn one day, cause he is real, you just can't see him...

This week I'm sure something extra "what the hell" will happen to make up for this weeks lack of inspiration. Though when you think about it, being sick for a whole week, so much so that you don't get out of bed, is a pretty big "what the hell" moment!

The Pretty Reckless

Have you heard of The Pretty Reckless yet? I know that I had heard of them somewhere, but it didn't stick and I forgot all about their existence. That is until a few nights ago, when I was looking into The Montreux Jazz Fest in Switzerland. I was seeing what big names played last year, to discover the caliber of acts that would be playing this year and I saw these guys on the bill for 2011.

After looking into it, I discovered that Taylor Momsen, also known as little Jenny Humphrey from the show "Gossip Girl", was the lead singer. Her voice surprised me. I'm actually quite a fan. She's got some very gritty tones going on. If you give this acoustic version of the bands song "Zombie" a shot you'll see what I mean. I've had it stuck in my head all day. The live, two man stuff seems to be my favorite so far, but I'll need to listen to the album some more as well to come to a full conclusion. The band is a little heavier then I normally like and yet I'm completely intrigued by The Pretty Reckless!

My random thoughts. I wish I could say that I was one of those people who has a focus or some structure to their blog, but I don’t. You’d think I would since S’m an organizing maniac (my husband actually once told me this was my best trait. He did not get brownie points for that one). But my blog seems to take whatever is in my head and spew it out onto a place that I use to remember the pretty things I like. Discuss the things that drive me nuts. The things I like to do and the things I want. And lament about the places I’d like to go and things I’d like to eat. Like I said, totally random.

6 things that make her world go round...
In random order. Of course:

- Music: I honestly can’t imagine life without a soundtrack to put with it. It’s one of my favorite topics of conversation. I’m constantly inspired by other people’s words and passions. And am completely in awe of such amazing talent that can create things that can move me to a completely different emotional state. A live concert is my idea of the perfect way to spend an evening.

- The dlp(my husband; dlp as he is referred to on my blog): A still wonder why this amazingly positive person came into my life and chose to stay here. He challenges me daily and I do the same for him. And while I don’t necessarily believe there is one perfect person in the world for people, I can’t imagine finding a more perfect partner to spend the rest of my life with. And he’s going to be the most amazing dad. And that just melts my heart.

- The pup: I never could have imagined that I would learn so much from a dog. Or that I could love something so much. I have completely turned into one of those people who considers the dog a part of their family (although he does not eat from the dinner table or sleep in bed with us). I have no idea what we did with our time before we adopted him.

- My family and friends: Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And I like that person. They are my constant support system and it’s nice to know that there’s always someone there that has your back. Iven when you’re acting like a complete ass. i don’t let a lot of people in my life, but I’m grateful for the ones that want to be a part of it.

- Brunch, with the perfect cup of coffee (or the perfect cocktail): as I’m a totally foodie, I’m really not sure there is anything better than a perfect brunch. I love that I can have eggs even though it’s the afternoon. or lunch if I really want it. And that alcohol in the morning is an accepted practice. Seeing my glass of water, next to a really good cup of coffee, next to a really good cocktail? It’s the perfect combination.

- Books: the perfect escape for an introvert. I have yet to jump over to the virtual side of things and do not own a kindle. Because I love the feel of the pages. And the smell of the paper. And the romantic idea that when I take out a library book, there are so many that have held this book before me. And I wonder if they enjoyed the story. And what their personal story is. It’s the perfect way to get lost.

Her perfect film would consist of...
A really good story line. Excellent dialogue. And a witty sense of humor. Oh, and an amazing soundtrack doesn’t hurt either.

Foreign Friday: The Young Girls Of Rochefort

Here it is, my first "Foreign Friday" post of 2012, as promised! I must tell you that I am writing this post while also having a high fever, which in a way seems appropriate. I'll tell you why in a few moments.

"The Young Girls Of Rochefort" is a French film which was released in 1967. Not only is it just a film, it's also a musical. You you get to read a lot in rhythm as you watch this story unfold. That is unless you speak French already?

The film is shot in pastels, like a lot of pastels. And the beginning scene is a large dance number, which hosts a ton of interesting costuming choices. It's the story of twin sisters Delphine (Catherine Deneuve) and Solange (Francoise Dorleac, Cathrine's actual sister) and their search for true love, as well as their love of music.

The local fair is about to take place in Rochefort and this brings Etienne ( George Chakiris) and Bill (Grover Dale) into town. They are carnies and by chance walk into Delphine and Solange's mother Yvonne's (Danielle Darrieux) cafe. And the girls see their chance to go to Paris with these lovely carnies. They think they are going to take it, but then things start to unfold...

You meet Solange's music teacher? Simon Dame (Michel Piccoli) who has a friend in Paris he wants her to meet. Later she meets a man in the street when she goes to pick up her brother Boubou (Patrick Jeantet) from school. Yes, I did just say his name is Boubou. The man, who is he? Well, he's American and his name is Andy Miller (Gene Kelly). They fall in love at first sight, but then they can't find each other... oh no!

In the mean time artist and military man, Maxence (Jacques Riberolles) has painted a picture of his ideal girl whom he is searching for. Odd thing is, it looks just like Delphine! Of course by a series of odd events they seem to never be able to meet, even though Maxence is in Yvonne's cafe quite often.

To add into the strangeness of this film there is also a murder, hidden love triangles (the kind that if you think about them to hard are really weird), questions of if the girls will find their sole mates, and the same song about a million different times. Ok, so maybe not a million, but they don't have a song book full of a lot of tunes, that's for sure.

What this film doesn't have is:
A plot that makes a lot of sense, yet still somehow manages to pull it off ok. And were is the trippy, LSD induced Gene Kelly dance sequence? Maybe there isn't one, because the whole movie is kinda strange? I have a feeling watching it with a fever would help. See I told you I'd wrap in my fever again!

Over all "The Young Girl's Of Rochefort" was enjoyable! It's a great little rainy day movie, that is as cute as it is strange. I'm honestly not sure how I feel about it. But the fact is, I'm still thinking about it and that says something, right?

You know what sucks? I mean plain out sucks? Dry cleaning.

Saturday, I went out with one of my dear sister in laws to shop for Europe! I know, I have months before I leave, but I have the extra cash now, so I figured "what the hell" I'll just get it all done now! That way it's out of the way and I know I'll like what I pick.

Anyways I found an awesome dress and these great pair of shorts. They were two of my favorites from our trip. Well when I got home, I looked at the tags before washing them and both items were.... DRY CLEAN ONLY. I don't know about you, but there is no way in hell that I'm dry cleaning clothes in Europe. "What the hell", why didn't I pay attention to this in the store?

Don't get me wrong, dry cleaning has it's place, and is maybe even an awesome job. I just wonder why clothes shops geared for the busy teen and twenty something age group, would even put "dry clean only" clothes in their stores? We don't really have the cash to dry clean, and we also don't want to buy clothes that we can't just throw in the washer real quick.

I mean if it's a really fancy dress for a special occasion, that's on thing. But a pair of shorts, really? "What the hell"?

I'm sure some of you have seen this video, but if you haven't, you need to watch it right now! It's pretty much the funnest thing ever. My favorite part: Where Amy screams "take her, take her"! It's completely classic! So what prompted me to post this video? Well today is my wonderful, awesome moms' birthday! And what better way to say "Happy Birthday Mom", then posting the funniest mother/daughter video you can find? Well, there might be other ways, but this is how I do it. Plus, I have a feeling that we would be a lot like this video if we were in a haunted house. I'd like to be able to say that I wouldn't yell "take her", but I probably would in the moment...oops. Makes me want to go through one with my mom right now. But an aquarium might have the same affect on us. At least a dark creepy one would, she passed her fear of the fishies behind glass onto me.

You might be asking yourself "what the hell is the reason for this post"? The answer is "what the hell" IS the reason for this post! You see, my sister in law Emily (yes Traven's wife) sent me these awesome rain boots for Christmas! They are awesome (I said that already)! They have random New York stuff all over them, including Miss Liberty, yellow taxis and NYC done in graffiti! I just realized that I didn't really get a good close up, on said boots, and now the lighting is crap. "What the hell"?

The fact is, I live in California and even if it is January, it's still at least 70 degrees outside and sunny all the time! "What the hell"? Where is all the rain? I miss it and wish it would just hurry up and rain already. Anyways, when these arrived in the mail on Monday, I couldn't wait to wear them, so I said "what the hell" and wore them all day yesterday. No reason in waiting on the rain to sport these totally killer boots! Which led to these pictures being taken, as it was almost dark and I was feeling like being silly and thought to myself "what the hell"! No really, that's what I thought...

Yes, that just happened! Yes, it was just that goofy!

Golden Years: Happy Birthday David Bowie!

When I discovered that today was David Bowie's 65th birthday I couldn't help but write a post! You see, I stumbled upon David Bowie fairly late in my life, if you can count my early teens as late? I grew up in a house where my love for music from the 60's and 70's was encouraged, but somehow my parents had missed the David Bowie train, so I ended up waiting years to discover this extremely talented man's music. But let me tell you, it was well worth the wait!

Honestly, it was the 2001 film "A Knight's Tale", that brought Mr. Bowie's music to the forefront for me. When his song "Golden Years" played in the film, it quickly became one of the my favorite moments, as well as one of my very favorite songs! Upon discovering Bowie sang the song, I quickly learned that I actually wasn't a total stranger of his tunes. And from that day forward I have been a HUGE fan of his HUGE catalog of music.

There is a rather perfect oddness to his music. His mind is one of a kind, which produces lyrics, melodies and fantastic charisma that is all his own. He knows who he is and rocks the hell out of it while performing, acting or just being. Bowie helped lead a charge that paved the way for musicians to break away from a semi cookie cutter image, and do their own thing. Sure, his career has had it's ups and downs. It still amazes me that "Labyrinth" failed at the box offices, and is now a huge cult classic. But what do I know? I don't think I saw it till I was at least 15. Seriously, where was I all those years? But non the less the man has staying power and has been inspiring musicians, artists, actors and everyday people for years!

So here's to you David Bowie! Thank you for writing from your beautiful, strange heart and for helping inspire the 13 year old version of myself and her love of music. That love still lives on today. Oh, and thanks for creating one of my favorite songs EVER! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We're Gonna Party Like It's 1999!

New Year's Eve was spent in lovely LA last weekend! Erica (the girl in the silver dress, who I have been friends with FOREVER) was having her graduation/New Years bash at her place! It was so much fun! There were so many pictures taken (I'm only showing you a few) and good times were had by all! My favorite thing about this picture is the fact that I am wearing 4 inch heals and I'm still the shortest one in the picture! Awesomeness! Anyways this was all of us girls, looking all sparkly and such!

Awww, it's me an Erica! We've been friends since I was born, so like 23 and a half years! She's my cousin's cousin, but not my cousin by blood! Yeah, let that one rotate on your brain cells for a minute or two! Ok, the minute is up...

Here's our super glam "wham bam thank you maam" picture! Thank you, David Bowie for putting those lyrics in "Suffragette City", you rock! Hahahahaha, Erica, Jasmin, Kaela and I are rocking it! In front of the booze cart no less! We do things right! Only I don't really drink, so this could be debated...

Oh, and for those of you that I will, or might be seeing in Europe! This is what you have to look forward to! Lots and lots of gut laughing provided by Kaela and myself.

On New Year's Day one of my other really good friends Amanda got hitched! Yep, the same Amanda I went to New York with last summer! She looked amazing and her wedding was so much fun! I'm so happy for her and her new hubby!

And then, if that isn't enough my parents and I headed to Disneyland on the 2nd! We had so much fun and went on tons of rides more than once! You all know how much I love parties and weddings and Disneyland, so can you imagine how amazing last weekend was for me? Really freaking amazing!

You're Not A Teenager Anymore... Finally!

There comes a time when your little brother grows up! Mine grew up fast, or at least tall. All 7 feet of him, including that hair of his! That hair is at least 4 inches tall... Now, today, his age is finally starting to catch up with him! Yes, that's right, today is that extremely epic day, when Traven turns 20... finally! That's right Emily (his wife, my sister in law) is no longer married to a teenager! I figure since he doesn't live close enough to give me too much crap about what I put in this post, that I will share a little something with all of you!

You see, not only is Traven hilarious, fun, nerdier then a lot of people on this planet and one of my best friends. He's also a fantastic singer/songwriter! So I figured that I just had to share this tune with you! Of course, Traven wrote it and sings it. I know this isn't the best recording ever, and it's from 2009! Plus, he could barely talk the day he did this show he was so sick, he still killed it though! Seriously, this song, "Rag Doll" is soooo catchy! I find myself humming it every once in awhile! So listen!!!!!!

I still remember when he told me he was naming this song "Rag Doll", cause he couldn't think of prier songs called that off the top of his head. Sadly, I did my sisterly duty and burst that bubble when I named off The Four Seasons, Aerosmith and a few other bands. Oh well. It's still a brilliant song! Did you enjoy it?!

Oh and while I'm at it I want to send a shout out to the birthday boy and his lovely bride Emily! They've almost been married a year! So happy anniversary two days early to an amazing couple! Guys, does this make up for the fact that I forgot to send you a card? Oops... On the bright side, not many people get anniversary blog posts in their honor! Cheers!

I hope all of you had a wonderful New Year?! It's awesome to see some new faces around here, and great to see the many returning ones! I've been totally blessed to meet each and everyone of you! So you might be saying "what the hell" to this weeks "wthw" post title, but I just couldn't help myself! So what is the thing that I am 4 days late for? I'm sure you've guessed, my New Years resolutions! Pictures of my fantastic weekend away will be coming your way on Friday!

So, I'm not normally one to post resolutions, but I thought that it would be fun, and "what the hell", it's a good reminder of the things that we want to do! Some are easy, and some might not end up happening, but that's ok, there is always next year, or the year after that! So in no real order, here are my 2012 resolutions:

Write one "Foreign Fridays" post a month! Some of you don't know it, but I used to watch and review one foreign movie a week, way back in the day. But then I got burnt out, so once a month, I'll bring it back. Plus it's how I finally mastered the spelling of the word "foreign"!

Inspire girls and women (and anyone else) to rock their awesomeness! This is something that I have a deep passion for, so I'll be writing posts to support and inspire and hopefully I'll start writing more Awesome Chronicles for "Hello Giggles"! You are all awesome!

Keep working on my music journalism! This is my true passion! I'm hoping to be writing full time when I get back from Europe! "What the hell", maybe I'll even try to intern over at "Hello Giggles"?!

See tons of great live music! Which also includes meeting awesome people! I met so many cool musicians in 2011!

Pick up a natural accent in Europe! I don't want to be one of those people who fakes it, but I hope it slips in there somehow!

Say "no" to giving up on my little "WTHW" link up! She might be one of the more uncool kids on the block, but that doesn't mean she's any less awesome! I also want to support others link ups as much as I can...

The Best Of 2011 Pop Culture With Dree!

Hi everyone!  I'm honored to be guest posting for Christianna while she enjoys a little trip to ring in the New Year.  Not only do I love reading Girl with the Blue Bow, I'm also very happy to call Christianna a friend.  To give a brief introduction, I'm Dree, a twenty-something student, American-born, living in Ireland, that loves Toby Keith, coffee and everything red.  I blog over at Defining Dree.  I think that's all you need to know!

Now, let's get this party started. I am a big pop culture freak, which really is synonymous for I like to watch TV, see new movies, read the bestselling books and yeah, I can tell you a lot about Meryl Streep. Oh, and I should mention: I don't go Kardashian. Ever. I figured the best way to usher out 2011 is to give it the respect it deserves and list out the things that made it great.

+ Hollywood Named its Reigning King and Queen

Finally, Mr. Darcy got an Oscar. If you didn't love Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice or Bridget Jones's Diary OR Love Actually {still no? Seriously?}, I bet he won you over with his funny yet gracious acceptance speech: “I’m afraid I have to warn you that I’m experiencing stirrings somewhere in the upper abdominals which are threatening to form themselves into dance moves.” Too bad he's married, otherwise I'd happily be his stalker. That same night, Natalie Portman was crowned Best Actress. Who more deserving than Queen Amidala turned Harvard graduate turned Hollywood heavyweight? Smart girls are back. Eat your heart out, Paris Hilton. Sidenote: if you haven't checked out Natalie's Rap, type it into Youtube and enjoy.

I'm sorry, but I can't discuss the presenters at the 2011 Oscars. James Franco and I had a harsh breakup that night, and no, I didn't get "closure".

+ Speaking of Royalty, 2011 had a Royal Wedding

I don't know about y'all, but I wasn't on this lovely earth to see the beautiful Princess Diana and Tampongate (google it, definitely not while eating} get married. I think my disdain for Tampongate made me really dislike English royalty, until Kate Middleton came into the picture. All of a sudden, the modern fairytale was created - a commoner meets a prince at college, finishes college, breaks up with prince, does her thing, gets back together with aforementioned prince, lives with him, gets the iconic sapphire engagement ring and plans her royal wedding. Say what?? The best parts of the wedding, for me were: Anything Harry did, Kate's dress, the foreign royals {hellllo Monaco}, Pippa's white dress and Wills owning that Aston Martin when he drove his bride away. The worst? Beatrice and Eugenie's headwear, the fuss over Pippa's butt, the incessant flashing over to Elton John when he sang hymns at the church and the awkward screaming for a public kiss on the balcony. But that's just me. What were your loves and hates?

+ Someone Like You Became the Breakup Song of a Generation

I played it on repeat after I saw James Franco ruin the Oscars. Just kidding. 2011 was Adele's year. Her soulful sound and honest lyrics resonated with pretty much everyone and she shot straight to the top of the charts. Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You were the songs of the year, yo. Girlfriend is seriously talented, but she's planning to wait for a few years before planning her next album. I'll be waiting.

I want to bawl my eyes out just typing this. I don't know about you other Potterheads, but for me, when I read the last Harry Potter, yes, I was inconsolable, but it wasn't truly over - I knew the movie was still to come. And then, this July, it was over. Regardless of whether you thought the movie did the book justice, there is no denying that it was an emotional journey from the theatre. New Year Resolutions With Christina!

Happy New Year! I’m Christina from Christina’s Pop Life and I’m so excited to be a guest here on Christianna’s blog! I hope you all celebrated to the fullest this weekend! Today is the day that New Year’s resolutions officially kick in. Everybody knows that you can’t start on January 1st. We’re all still in holiday mode, we’re tired from partying on New Year’s Eve, and we’re gonna eat a greasy McDonald’s breakfast to help cure our hangovers. So today it is. It’s a fresh start. A new year!

The most popular New Year’s resolutions are to lose weight, stop smoking, stop drinking, get out of debt and get organized. While those are all great goals I thought I’d share some small and simple, but beneficial resolutions we can all add to our list.

Spend more time with those that matter. Hang out with the people that make you feel good. Learn from the ones that add something to your life. Listen to the ones that encourage you. And cut ties with those who bring you down.

Be polite. Especially to strangers. You have no idea how hard someone’s life is. You don’t know their trials and tribulations or their history. Be kind and nonjudgmental. Until they are rude to you. Then stand up for yourself!

Take responsibility. It’s your life so if you don’t like it, change it. If you made a mistake, own it. Overcome obstacles. Ask for help when you need it. And if it’s something beyond your control, let it go!

Make a plan. While we should always live in the moment, sometimes its nice to have something to look forward to. Plan dates with your loved one, outings with friends, vacations with family or even time to spend alone. Always put yourself on your to do list!

Get healthy. I’m not saying we all need a crazy diet or to start running marathons. But we do need to drink more water, limit unhealthy foods, wear sunscreen, get enough sleep and use the stairs. Take care of your body so it will take care of you!

Be selfless. Find an organization that speaks to you and volunteer time or money. Donate blood. Walk for a cure. Be thankful for what you have and pay it forward. Buy products that benefit others, but don’t get too caught up in material things.

Charity: Water

Just be happy. Stay positive. Help others. Be your true self. Act silly. Execute your dreams and goals. Laugh a lot. Read. Make new friends. Forgive. Unwind. Be inspired. Appreciate and protect nature. Communicate. Have fun.

Safe And Sound!

A few days ago, country songbird Taylor Swift, tweeted that she had a surprise in store for all of us, and then some of us waited for the news. Next thing you know, the news was here. That's right, the first single from "The Hunger Games" soundtrack "Safe and Sound" had been released and not only did it feature Taylor Swift, but we quickly learned that it was a collaboration with The Civil Wars! There is something magical when Miss Swift's vocals mix with the voices of Joy Williams and John Paul White. Williams and White are the duo behind the folk band The Civil Wars.

"Safe and Sound" definitely has been heavily influenced by the folk sounds of The Civil Wars, but Taylor adds something to it, making it a song you won't soon forget. To say that the song is haunting might be a slight understatement. It somehow manages to be both sweet, hopeful and dreamlike, while also being sad, full of sorrow and something more like a song that plays in the background of a nightmare. Simply put, it captures the essence of "The Hunger Games" perfectly. Bravo, Taylor, Joy and John for making a song that embodies a series that is loved by so many!

I for one can't wait to see what other songs end up on the soundtrack! Hopefully they fit the mood of the film just as well as this song does.

What The Hell Wednesday: 2011, The Year I Got My Inspiration Back!

Well, I was thinking that I needed a "WTH" post, and that I wanted to do a post about the best live music that I saw this year, so I thought "what the hell", I'm gonna mix them together! So get ready for a HUGE, positive dose of "What The Hell"! Needless to say, 2011 is the year that I got my inspiration back. Earlier this year, I was trying to find my passion again, and it showed up in a big way! I have always loved music, but I didn't know what to do with that love. And then this year, and these bands live performances dragged me back into the world of performers, music and writing. And as the randomness unfolded even more, these things mixed together, and I began writing for Broken Records Magazine! I have no idea where 2012 is going to take me in this thing called journalism and showbiz, but you best believe that it will be something brilliant, cause 2011 is the year I got my inspiration back! "Bonnie Dune" April 10, 2011

I saw this concert in my neck of the woods, as the two dudes closest to us in the car grew up around here! It was so awesome to see these gents from my area in a band with a huge fan base, that is growing on a daily basis! They might come to see Finn from "GLEE", but they stay fans because the band has talent! Also, the fact that my review got tossed around all over the fan pages gave me a huge confidence boost!

"Smoke Signals" June 4th, 2011

I made sure when I booked my plane ticket to New York in June that I would not miss seeing Smoke Signals live! These guys play shows in NYC a lot, and if you are near there, you NEED to go see one of their shows! Their music is awesome, and they are really nice guys! The band is doing quite well, and now lead singer Coley O'Toole is also in the band We The Kings! "What the hell"? Way to go big!

"Eric Burden And The Animals" June 8th, 2011

Once again, this was a show I saw in NYC! I grew up loving The Animals, and I still do, so it was a thrill to get to watch Eric Burden in action! That little 70 year old British man still had amazing talent and I loved every second of the show! If you read the review you will learn that by having connections we got to backstage and hang out with the legend after the show! Or if you look at the picture "what the hell", is that me with him? Yes, yes it is!

This was my first official article for Broken Records and I had a blast writing it as well as seeing all three of these talented acts together! It was my second time seeing both Gavin and Maroon 5! "What the hell"? They must be good? And they are. You wanna know who else was good? Train!

"The Fab Four" July 22, 2011

Yes, it's a tribute band, but The Fab Four blew me away! I actually wrote my review of their show for a "what the hell" post! I thought it was going to be a different kind of "what the hell" moment, but in the end they were amazing! See them if you can! When all is said and done, it's the closest you'll ever get to seeing The Beatles live!

I'm so glad that I randomly chanced upon this band! I went to see 100 Monkeys and these gents opened for them. I was blown away, and I just know that one day soon these guys are going to be HUGE! They are all such talented, classy guys! Listen and support! Or if you're in the LA area, go see one of their shows! They play quite often! Don't be left saying "what the hell', I let that pass me by..."

This show was a game changer for me! Honestly, you have never seen anything like a 100 Monkeys show, unless you've seen a 100 Monkeys show! There is something so one of a kind about what they do and how they connect with their audience! Seriously, the best live show I've ever been to. "What the hell", It's pure magic! These guys are genuine artists who touch my very soul!

"TAT" October 27th, 2011

I went and saw TAT preform live for the first time, and I loved them! I had met lead singer Tatiana DeMaria in NYC over the summer, but hadn't been able to see the band yet. The musicianship and songwriting is top notch and the dynamics of this three piece punk/rock band are so much fun to watch! No wonder they keep making appearances at Warp Tour! "What the hell", give this talented band a shot!

Best Of 2011: The Book Edition!

You all know that I read... a lot! So, I figured that I would do a round up of my favorite reads of 2011 for you guys! No, not all of these books were actually released in 2011, but I read them or even re read them this year. If I reviewed them I'll just put the link below the book! A few don't have reviews, but that's ok too!

I really enjoyed all three books in The Wolves Of Mercy Falls Trilogy! They were such fun, good reads. You can click the links to read my reviews of "Shiver" and "Linger". For some reason I didn't review "Forever", but it's great too.

"Coraline" by Neil Gaiman.

It's a little creepy, a little spooky, and intended for the child in all of us. I love this tale created by Mr. Neil Gaiman! Get the review HERE!

"Impossible" by Nancy Werlin.

This was the book that you just randomly read, and you really end up liking! It's a modern twist on an old folk legend! The review is HERE!

"Girl, Interrupted" by Susanna Kaysen.

Wow, this book was intense and a true story. It mixed a mental hospital with the 60's and I loved it! The review is right HERE!

"The Wicked Lovely Series" by Melissa Marr.

I made my job easy on this one, cause I actually reviewed the whole series HERE! All 5 books are well worth the read!

"The Last Little Blue Envelope" by Maureen Johnson.

Or really any book by Maureen Johnson! I love this ladies books! Really, read one! Here's my review of This Book. But you should also check out "13 Little Blue Envelopes", "Girl At Sea", and the beginning of her new series "The Name Of The Star" which takes place in London and has to do with Jack The Ripper! Read it!

"Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman.

This has to be one of my very favorite books, and this was a re read for me this year! In fact, I picked it for that book club I was talking about! Read my thoughts HERE!

"Graveminder" by Melissa Marr.

For some reason I didn't review this book, but I loved it! It's super creepy, and about zombies and the girl who has to keep the dead from walking. Hence she minds the graves! It was so interesting and well thought out, just like Marr's "Wicked Lovely Books"!

Well, Christmas has come and gone once again. I hope yours was spent with people you love, whether it was family, friends or random strangers! Because all three of those types of people have things in common...

I spent the day surrounded by family. I started off by calling my little bro and his wife! Then I talked to my oldest bro, who also doesn't live in Cali. Then I opened gifts with mom and dad. Then we went over to one of my other brother's houses and had the most amazing meal ever, surrounded by all of my brothers, sis in laws, nephews and nieces. As well as my parents and my sis in laws families! It was awesome! And then I ended the night by going and seeing the new "Sherlock Holmes" movie with a friend. It's tradition. There was a time when all of us friends took up a whole row in the theater on Christmas night, but tonight it was just two. Needless to say, the tradition lives on and so do good friendships!

I also got a nasty cold for Christmas! Which is why this post might not make the best of sense. Gah, I hate being sick. I also had this Jefferson Airplane song stuck in my head all day. Oh, and then I found this video and just had to share! It's sooooo 60's and great! Don't you think?

Wow, it's only two days until Christmas! My weekend will be spent celebrating Christmas Eve at my brother's, and then Christmas at one of my other brother's house. And let's not forget the long standing tradition of seeing a late night movie with my friends on Christmas night! It's bound to be a great weekend! I won't see you all until next week... So have a very Merry Christmas! You guys are awesome!

Nothing says "it's the holidays" like sparkles! Notice how I named this post after a David Bowie song! (just a random fact). Now, I'm not pulling out the sparkles till New Years, at least I don't think I will be, but I love them! They yell, "Let's party" in your face. Or in the faces of the people around you! Though, at the same time they are also playful and elegant. How something like sparkles can say so much is a mystery to me. But they do it well!

Rock Of Ages!

Who has seen the new "Rock Of Ages" movie trailer? It was released not too long ago, and I've watched it a few times. Most of you know that I went and saw the musical live in New York over the summer! It was so much freaking fun, full of great sing along tunes, goofy antics, great characters and a high dose of 80's themed sex, drugs and rock n' roll. Actually not really drugs from what I can remember, just a lot of drinking!

There is no chance that I will not be checking this flick out in theaters, I just hope that I don't miss the missing characters too much. I think that getting rid of some really awesome characters and replacing them with "the mayor's wife" could have been a very bad idea. Needless to say, I quite enjoy Miss Zeta-Jones, so we shall see. Also I hope that they keep the silliness of the show, without making it too over the top, or to serious. The musical walks a fine line, and does it well! I just hope the movie holds up. It'll be different for sure, and hopefully a good different?!

Is anyone else excited for this film? Has anyone else seen the musical? What are your thoughts on the film? Do you think it'll hold a candle to the stage show? Or are you going to wait to see it to form an opinion, like me?

What The Hell Wednesday: Hanukkah And Other Jewish Things!

It all started when I was in middle school and these words were uttered "Did you know that Great Grandma's parents used to read to her from the Torah"? "What the hell"? Yes, that is the day that we realized that we were at least half Hebrew, and of course my family jumped right on the Hebrew band wagon, cause that wagon has a really awesome band! Yes, my family is Christian, but we also started celebrating all the Jewish holidays. We've slowed down a bit, cause I'm the only one still living at home, but we still rock the Jewness and yesterday at sundown was the first night of Hanukkah! Hanukkah is pretty awesome! It's the Jewish fest of lights! Go HERE to read the story! I also love that there are two ways to spell Hanukkah. "What the hell"? They are both correct, so it's kinda take your pick. I like this version...

So to kick off the Hanukkah season, that lasts a total of eight nights, I decided to delve back into my archive and pull out some silly videos that I posted last year for my 8 nights of Hanukkah posts! You can find them in the "Rants" part of "What's It's".

Now, I'm sure that we all have our favorite Christmas songs, whether they be hymns, classics or brand new tunes! Today I thought I'd share the songs that make Christmas Christmas for me. So get ready for some of the quirkiest Christmas tunes! I'm hoping that some of them are new for you, and if not, then that explains why we are friends! A girl from the land down under called Australia who, although grew up in the most liveable city in the world, Melbourne, had the overwhelming lust to travel and see what was out there in the big wide world. So, after several years of working in a part time job whilst studying fashion and marketing, saved enough to backpack around europe for three months in the summer of 2008 after graduating. With that a wanderlust was born and the urge to seek what was out there took this exploring mind to pursue living and working abroad and with great luck scored a fashion marketing job in what is known as North America's Paris, Montreal. While there, a love of all things Francois grew surrounded by the European influence of Montreal's grand historic architecture and french culture. As cliche as it may sound, it only meant one thing, being closer to my life long dream of living in the fashion and advertising capital of the world, New York City. After several months of pursuing internships and apartment searching, that dream was fulfilled and I spent over a year working and studying what was only imagined in stories and in films. Fashion Friday: Plus, It's A Purse Party!

Not only am I linking up with Kori from Blonde Episodes for Fashion Friday (like normal, it's so fun), I am also linking up with Reni from in Her shoes! Why? Well, Reni had this great idea to have a "what's in your purse" party today! So if you feel like sharing what is in your purse today, head on over to Reni's and link your fun dives into your purse right on up! Or if you have a fashion related post you can go link up with Kori, or you can do both, like me! So here is a picture of my Nordic purse that I got at ROSS for super cheap! I haven't been in love with a purse, like I am with this one, for a very lone time! Not only is it Nordic print, it's also a cross body bag, and it's the perfect size!

I have a confession to make! I know, confession time is always fun. Anyways, the inside of my purse never looks like this. The reason that my purse isn't a mess inside and full of random crap is that I cleaned it out before I went to Portland two weeks ago. Which is where I actually met Reni, in person! I guess I haven't made a mess inside my purse yet, which is a miracle! Really and truly. So here goes!

1: Mr. Clark Kent (he's my Kindle, and he's awesome)

2: My ghetto business cards for my Etsy and Blog. They aren't really ghetto, but I wrote my e-mail on the back, cause I didn't put it on there originally. I know, I should get new cards for music related work.

3: My glasses in their case! I'm not blind, but I do need them for driving or watching plays or movies.

4: My perfect red lipstick. It's Raven by Hourglass!

5: Some gum I picked up at the airport...

6: A case for random little things.

7: My keys with my Aerosmith key chain! I always get key chains for every concert or musical that I see. I broke my first Aerosmith key chain, and lost it. But lucky for me I've seen them twice, so I got a replacement.

8: A pen and a cool Green mole skin mini journal. You never know when inspiration will strike, or when you will meet someone you can interview real fast!

9: My wallet!

10: My iPod sock that I use as a camera case. You can't see my camera, cause I'm using it to take the picture and I haven't perfected the use of magic yet...

So, that's it. Nothing overly exciting this time around. Which I'm kinda thankful for. I know you can't tell from this picture, but sometimes my purse is a scary place...
