Did you hear? Our good pals Jack and White released their new covers EP titled "Undercover" last Tuesday on iTunes! Can I just start off by saying that I LOVE the cover art for the EP! It's just darling, don't you think?!
The whole idea behind "Undercover" was to take a song from every decade, starting in the 60s, working it's way forward, to bring you a Jack and White twist on some old classic tunes. In the hands of Jack Matranga and Brooke White, these songs are brought to a new, fresh life. Jack and White stamp each song with their sound and vibe without taking away from what the original artists produced. What more could you want from a covers album? Nothing! These two have put in the hard work and it has paid off, big time!
"Undercover" starts off with The Mamas and The Papas, 1960's hit "California Dreamin". The cover treats the song with respect and also makes some fun twists! You hear a lot of Jack Matranga's vocals as well, which is a lot of fun!
Next we hear Jack and White's take on Electric Light Orchestra's, 1970's tune "Telephone Line". Jack and White are joined by Fitz from the band Fitz and the Tantrums on this track! Once again, all three working together creates something awesome!
So, what's up for the 1980's, you ask? Well, Jack and White take on The Eurythmics' song "Here Comes The Rain Again". It's eerie and sleek and so much fun to listen to!
Their 1990's cover comes to us straight from a little band called Thrid Eye Blind. Jack and White put their own music stylings on the famous 90's band's hit song "Hows It Gonna Be". They leave the grit of the originals, while also turning it into something slightly whimsical!
Remember Justin Timberlake's 2002 song "Cry Me A River"?! Well, I bet you've never heard it like this before! Jack and White keep the beat and music steady, but flip the song with their beautiful harmonies! It works really well, if you ask me!
The album finishes up with a cover of The Black Keys tune "Tighten Up" from their 2010 album "Brothers". Jack and White prove themselves once again by bringing new life to a song that is only two years old! It's a delightful cover of a song that is still on many people's radars.
Needless to say, get yourselves over to iTunes and download yourself a copy of Jack and White's "Undercover" EP. You won't be sorry!
P.S. Congrats to Brooke White and her Hubby on their brand new baby girl London!

The ideas in this blog are spectacular and very tasteful.
it is a cool album cover- I like the stylized black and white@
Love love LOVE their new EP. It's already racking up huge play counts in my iTunes. I love the combination of Jack & Brooke's voices and their beautiful harmonies, and they've done an incredible job on each of these covers blending their style with well-loved songs from each decade. California Dreamin' is my obvious favourite (HUGE Mamas and the Papas fan), with Telephone Line as a close second. But honestly, I love the whole thing. :)
