I have a confession to make. I haven't watch "American Idol" for the last two seasons. But all the years and seasons before that I never missed an episode. Whether I had people tape it for me, I could actually watch it on my TV or all the other options you can think of. I saw every single episode. I've been to a taping, I've been to concert, I used to be what you would call a super fan, but then all of the sudden it started changing and things got old fast. So, I said goodbye to Idol.
When I heard the finale was here this season, I looked up You Tube videos of the two finalists and that's when I heard Phillip Phillips for the first time. The first video I watched blew me away. He wasn't your typical "American Idol" type guy, at all. He was his own unique artist, putting his staple on songs that you've heard 1,000 times before and making you like them all over again. So, I was excited when I heard that he had taken the "American Idol" title for 2012. Good job America, good job!
His vocals are extremely unique. Some might say they are limited, but some of the most unique and fantastic vocalists out there don't have a huge range. See Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding and so on. The thing about Phillip Phillips (I just love typing that) is that he knows who he is. He doesn't change his musicianship or who he knows he is to impress others and that's the most impressive thing about him. The size of a vocalists range has never defined their star power. Plus, have you seen the way that boy can play the guitar? It's very impressive! He could just be one of those stand outs of our generation. Don't quote me on that, but I have a gut feeling and my gut is usually right! Anyone else agree with me? Or are my gut and I alone in this?
Now get ready for video overload!
Here he is covering Wilson Pickett's "In The Midnight Hour". I'm a fan of both.
His cover of "Movin' Out: Anthony's Song" originally Billy Joel.
His cover of Jonny Lang's "Still Rainin'".
Or what about his cover of Genesis' "That's All".
Or Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight".
Or his audition that includes a brilliant cover of MJ's "Thriller".
And finally, here is his first single "Home".

Totally! He is so brilliant and so unique. I really wanted him to win:) Happy morning, sweetie.
I haven't watched Idol since season one, but I do catch episodes here and there. I like his voice!
He officially won me over with We've Got Tonight!! :)
I love him! I've been singing his song "Home" all weekend!
I havent watched American Idol in forever. I wish this guy luck but it seems like all the previous contestants (with the exception of a few) just seem to disappear.
Maybe I should give him a chance, I've never been a big Idol fan, but there have been a few people discovered through the show I really like.
The last year I watched was Kris Allen (who I love!). I hate the auditions, never have liked them. I feel so bad for the people!
But this dude, with the unfortunate name, is pretty cute for a youngin'!
I haven't watched this season at all so when I heard the winner's name I was laughing my ass off at his name- but he's kind of hot!
My roommates watched it so I was forced to watch it too. Last time I watched was 430 years ago (yes I'm a vampire!) so I wasn't pleased and hardly watched but listened. AND I'm so happy he won. His voice has something that blew me away...made me long for more. Poor dude has a very unfortunate name (what were his parents thinking?! Sorry but true!!), but it's one we all will remember! ;)
