So, where does this topic come from? The other day a friend and I were talking about Jane Austin movie adaptations and she said without a doubt the best one was the BBC version of "Pride and Prejudice". Now, I happen to like both versions, both the BBC and the Keira Knightly versions. I also happen to LOVE "Mansfield Park" and "Emma", so of course I tweeted, asking people what Jane Austin movie was their favorite? Only one of your responded, other then the person who I was talking to and so I thought I'd ask the question in a bigger setting.
So here goes, what is your favorite movie based on a Jane Austin novel?! Are you a firm lover of "Pride and Prejudice", or do you love the underdogs as much as I do?
Here's a reminder of the films (that I know of)
"Emma"

"Mansfield Park"

"Sense And Sensibility"

"Persuasion"

Or modern versions like "Clueless"

There's the list I came up with. Which also strikes another question. Which are better the BBC versions or the American versions? Or does it differ for you depending on the movie?
Clarification: I still love "Pride and Prejudice", I just also enjoy some of the underdog flicks as well. So, let's talk about our favorites and BBC vs American versions! I'm excited about this! And did I leave any movies out? Bring them up in comments if I did.

Oh, I love this post Christianna! I absolutely love all of Jane Austen's books and the movie adaptations are all awesome. I've seen all of these and I've enjoyed each one.
p.s. sorry I haven't been blogging much lately. Just worn out and too much work. Hope you're doing well sweetie.

I simply adore Mansfield Park! Have a great day, darling. xo
somehow in high-school i managed not to read any jane austin. and i've always been meaning to remedy that!
I’ve never seen any of these, besides Clueless of course. I’ve also never read anything by Jane Austen. I’m not really a romantic, so they have never appealed to me.
Emma with Paltrow is my fave.
I LOVE Persuasion, it's my favorite... Ciaran Hinds is my Captain Wentworth perfectly.
I like both versions of Pride and Prejudice.
I love P&P with Keira Knightly, but I also love Sense and Sensibility. So good!

Joelle
Sense and Sensibility has always been my favorite! It was beautifully acted, and to this day, watching Edward's proposal still makes me giggle with joy.
Truth be told... Clueless, Emma and the Keira Knightly P&P are the only Jane Austen inspired films I've ever seen. *gasp* I know!
But with my recent obsession with Downton Abbey on a forced vacation - perhaps these films would be good substitutes.
Sense and Sensibility, hands down. It's the only one I've watched multiple times, and the only one I will seek out... hey, maybe I'll watch it tonight!
BBC's P&P is my 2nd favorite.
Is it bad that off of this list I've only seen Clueless? I am horrible with classic movies though. My co-workers make fun of the lack of movie watching I do.
* ...or don't do? lol
I don't care if we talk about Jane Austen, as long as we talk about the hotness that is Colin Firth hahaha. Right now I'm reading a book called The Three Weissmans of Westport that is loosely based on Sense and Sensibility. Its decent so far, I checked it out because my mom just got it as a gift and I thought it looked interesting.
Eeek, Clueless! It's one of my favorite movies EVER! :)
Also, I totally agree that the BBC version is one of the best adaptations. But still, Keira Knightley is one amazing actress, so of course I love "her" movie as well.
Ah, Jane Austen can never be wrong, haha.
Thanks for sharing.
Love, Nadine
Sad but true...I've only seen the movies.
Nice list girl...these are awesome movies to watch on a cold Sunday afternoon, drinking hot chocolate!! :)
