Hi! It's Kim from bebepies.com again. I am back with some more Canadian lady goodness!
Some music is perfect for relaxing on a couch while reading a good book. The music sets a comfortable mood and eases you into forgetting about your day and focusing on your good book. Blue Hawaii's 'Untogether' is one of those albums. That is not to say the album is boring or unworthy of a listeners undivided attention. The album is an introspective journey focusing on the nature of communication, distance and their effects on art. The sweet vocals, the cold production, and the embracing of quiet create a gorgeous album whether reading a good book or sitting on a bus with headphones. Below is the track 'Try To Be' off the album 'Untogether'.
I thought I would take a break from the pop to highlight an amazing punk rock band hailing from British Columbia, Canada.
White Lung have been growing a following since 2006. Touring across Canada and into the USA, White Lung are living the DIY lifestyle. White Lung's music clearly references 1980s hardcore while the lead singer, Mish Way, seems to be channeling Courtney Love from the early years of the band Hole. This is not to say they are a band simply repeating the sounds of their inspirations; White Lung are carving their own unique sound from the tradition of punk rock.
2012 saw the release of White Lung's sophomore album 'Sorry'. The album is high energy, skilled songwriting at its best. Check out the video for the track 'Bag'.
The end of last week brought a fantastic treat, a new Annie song! You may remember Annie form her brilliant 2004 debut album 'Anniemal'. It was not till 2009 that we were blessed with another fantastic pop treat in the form of her album 'Don't Stop'. If you haven't heard Annie before, you are in for pop at its best. I am still very confused by the fact that Annie is not a superstar. She writes and produces amazing songs that are perfect for the club, bedroom dancing and working out with your earphones on at full blast. I was over the moon delighted to hear that Annie is going to release an Ep this year - the date TBA.
Here is Annie's new song. The video is a little weak, but the song is fantastic.
And here is a little reminder of the brilliance of Annie's earlier works!
I have a confession to make. I am head over heels, madly in love with someone other than my husband. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm head over heels, madly in love with him too, but he doesn't look nearly as good in a green, bedazzled flapper dress. And, I'm positive he can't kick his leg that high.
You didn't think we could get through April without a week devoted to April showers, did you?! And call it a cop out if you like, but I just had to (HAD TO) share this dance scene from Singing In The Rain. I suppose it doesn't exactly fall in line with how I normally share music with you, but this musical (beyond the to die for Cyd Charisse scenes) is chock full of great clarinets. And, in case you didn't know, that just so happens to be my area of expertise. Take for example the killer clarinet solo for when Cyd's character is introduced to the scene. Talk about a sassy sensual intro!
Anyway, like I said, this Friday's Fancies is all about April showers and rainy day fashion. {av} of [long distance loving] asked us to pull together a chic rainy day outfit; for some reason when I think of rain coats I think of primary school and primary colors. Good thing I still like a nice bold hue even as a grown woman!
